Tanya (Tickel) Schlusser died unexpectedly in her home on August 29, 2019 in Bridgeview, IL. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ivy Ma. She is survived by her husband, Robert; father, Gary Tickel; brothers, Timothy (Jennifer Renz); step-brother, Colin Yang; and her niece, Beatrix Tickel. Tanya was born on July 14 in Los Altos, CA. She graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 1999 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, in 2006 from Northwestern University with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, and in 2013 from the University of Chicago with an MBA in Econometrics and Statistics. Tanya began her career in gasification and she later found her passion in data analytics. Tanya was an active and enthusiastic member and organizer of the Chicago Python User Group, and co-authored a book “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Python: Best Practices for Development.” She believed, in her own words, that “the purpose of any career is to contribute to society with the talents one has been given.” Tanya took a five-year hiatus from her career in data analytics to be a full-time caregiver for her mother, Ivy; together they traversed the United States visiting friends, family, and Elvis! Her kindness was genuine, pure and unlimited. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation (https://www.alzinfo.org/).
