Spend the evening making new friends and creating meaningful connections with Techers in your neighborhood. Then hear updates about campus and alumni relations from Dexter Bailey, Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations and Mario Peraza, Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations and Chief Executive Officer of the Caltech Alumni Association.

Denver has a growing Techer community. More than 600 alumni, staff, postdocs, and donors reside within 60 miles of Denver. That group includes 281 former student athletes, 1 Distinguished Alumni, and 2 former CAA board members. The area’s top employers include University of Colorado (46), Colorado State University (13) and more.

Dexter A. Bailey Jr.

Dexter A. Bailey Jr.

Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations of the California Institute of Technology

Dexter A. Bailey Jr. is a fundraising executive with over 25 years of experience. His expertise includes reengineering comprehensive fundraising programs, complex principal gifts, grateful patients, alumni relations, staff development, and organizational optimization. Dexter often speaks on issues related to modern campaigns, institutional leadership and the role and experience of minorities in university advancement. 

Prior to joining Caltech in July 2019, Dexter served for 8+ years as senior vice president for advancement at Stony Brook University and executive director of the Stony Brook Foundation where he spearheaded the most successful campaign in the history of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. He is the recipient of the 2019 CASE Commonfund Institutionally Related Foundation Award. During his career, he led development and alumni relations programs at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, University of California at Berkeley, University of Washington, and Ohio University.

Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations and Chief Executive Officer of the Caltech Alumni Association

Mario Peraza is a higher education professional with close to 20 years of experience in alumni relations, engagement strategy, and organizational leadership. His expertise spans STEM-focused alumni engagement, relationship building, and developing programs that foster lasting connections with alumni from diverse backgrounds. Mario brings a deep commitment to elevating the alumni experience and advancing meaningful engagement. 

Before joining Caltech, Mario held leadership roles in alumni relations and advancement at several institutions, focusing on cultivating networks for science and technology alumni. In his new role at Caltech, Mario aims to create a dynamic and inclusive alumni community that celebrates Caltech’s achievements and builds lifelong relationships with Techers worldwide. His background as a first-generation college graduate and Latinx alumnus also shapes his approach to inclusivity, ensuring all alumni feel valued and connected. Mario is passionate about leveraging technology to bridge distances, tailoring programs to alumni needs, and highlighting Caltech’s legacy through innovative engagement strategies.
