Giving Science a Seat at the Table: How to Provide Non-partisan Science Advice to Decision Makers
By Adam Jones
Adam, a Science Program Officer at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, will share some personal stories and lessons from a decade of providing support for evidence-informed policy to the government. He’ll explain how scientists can effectively work with elected officials at all government levels to ensure they have access to scientific and technological expertise when making decisions. He’ll also offer some ways you can get involved!
Adam has spent the last 10 years in strategic philanthropy, supporting hundreds of projects in life sciences, science policy, invention and innovation, green and sustainable chemistry, open science, and more. Prior to joining the Moore Foundation, he was an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC.
He has a multidisciplinary research background in biology and oceanography, completing his doctoral training at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, and a Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Tübingen in Germany.
