Alley Wall Art Gallery
For decades, it's been traditional for students living on campus to decorate their rooms and hallways by painting, drawing, and scrawling on the walls. Nearly all those unauthorized artworks—the inspirational and the inscrutable—were painted over during the South House renovations.
In an article for Caltech News, Dave Zobel '84 mourns the passing of these artistic contributions while celebrating the spirit that suffused them and the Techers who created them.
Thanks to the generosity of amateur alumni photographers, the legacy lives on. To browse images of student-designed murals, graffiti, and other architectural alterations from the Houses, click here.
